Sid Fleishman – Where He Fits In History

Sid Fleishman was born in April 1920. The nineteenth amendment to the constitution was ratified in the year Sid Fleishman was born. A radio station in Detroit became the first in the world to broadcast a commercial, prohibition became law, and Amelia Earhart took her first flight.

When my kids were in 4th grade, it was time to learn some California state history. We used a Literature approach that was held together by an immense map we drew and decorated throughout the year.

One of my kids’ favorite book was By the Great Horn Spoon! Oh, I can still hear the giggles echoing in my memory. I read this one aloud to my kids, just a little bit every day and my son would belly laugh so hard he would end up on the floor roaring with laughter. This is definitely a favorite.
