F is for Finally

F is for FinallyEver have one of those moments? You have been trying to teach your child spelling, or addition, or history, or even to write his letters for what seems like eons. It may actually have been years that you have been at it.

Then one day, quietly and without fanfare, your wonderful precious child gets it. He all of a sudden, overnight, understands!

And what is your first thought? Well, what is your first thought after you call your husband at work to tell him the wonderful news about a minutia of your homeschooling life that he absolutely doesn’t understand?

If you are like me you sit down with a cup of coffee later in the afternoon, breathe a huge sigh and think FINALLY!

Finally I did it!

Finally all that work and effort on my part made a difference! I am the hero of the household for today! I have saved my son from a life of poor spelling and inability to make change for customers at the store!

That is how I feel every time we get through one of those stages and break through a barrier my child has been trying to get through.

But when I think about it, it wasn’t me who gave my child the magic needed to understand. He was able to figure it out for himself. I like to think that he even had a bit of divine intervention, as most of these ‘Ah-Ha’ moments usually happen overnight in our house.

I need to check my pride at the door and praise my child and his maker. THAT is the beauty of homeschooling! We get a front row seat to watching God work in our children and as a result we are witness to His grace.

So the next time your child finally figures out something that you have been worrying over and pulling your hair out in the process of trying to teach him, stop for a moment before you think FINALLY.

You just witnessed the beauty and grace of God.

Now THAT is wonderful.

Have You Witnessed Any ‘Ah-Ha’ Moments In Your Homeschool Lately?
