This weekend is a boy-free bonding opportunity with my daughter. Her favorite activities in life, beyond making music, are sewing and knitting. And so that is our weekend.
Yesterday she decided to knit a cowl. Just because. And so she set about it and six hours of work later, she is nearly finished. Perseverance is such a wonderful personality trait. I really think that perseverance alone will get you far in life.
Whenever my kids get crafty, it inspires me. So I occupied myself by transforming a kid favorite t-shirt into a pillow. This is absolutely the easiest craft you can do. Just sew the arm holes and neckline shut and you are pretty much finished. It turns out that kids’ t-shirts in the 7- and up size fit really, really well over throw pillows. I remember vividly the sadness of growing out of a favorite shirts when I was a kid so I am happy to re-purpose my kids’ favorite clothing.
And so we have a day of mother-daughter bonding. Quiet, happy, and calm.
