I am only one

I feel that it is time for me to get on with life. The world is not ending (at least in the foreseeable future). I am not a political pundit. I am a mother who homeschools her children. While I have a collection of projects to keep me busy and make a bit of extra money, I am fundamentally a mother who homeschools. It is time to refocus on what is important and immediate: children and husband.

Today I was watching the aftermath of the election. It occurred to me that we really don’t know when the disruptive antics will end. We don’t even really know what will happen tomorrow. And then I remembered my most favorite quote:

I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do. ~ Edward Everett Hale

Now some people might take that wonderful quote to mean that they should change their life to become someone else and try to change the world.

I think they are wrong. Some of us are meant to change the world in big and loud ways. And some of us change the world within the confines of our kitchen and living room. I change the world by doing something that is fundamentally important: I homeschool my children diligently each day, I care for my husband and my children every waking moment, and I love them all as much as I possibly can.

I do not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.

And that is how I change the world.
