The last week has really driven me to focus on what is most important. Now, you might think that would be a job or a favorite kitchen appliance but actually it is my family.
I am not talking about my birth family, but the family that my husband and I created. Our own little family is the most eternally precious force in my life.
I cannot separate myself from my family in my mind. Everything I think of is really based around how what I might do relates to them.
The world seems to be totally unhinged with fear and downright craziness right now but here in our home, our little family is closer and happier than ever.
Yes, homeschooling is key to a lot of that closeness, but really now that our kids are nearly done with their school years, the homeschool activities we do together are really more revisiting shadows and memories of our younger selves. We might watch a documentary together or go on a field trip or break out a science project, but the activity is so much less about schooling and so much more about everyone wanting to spend time together.
I think that together is really the end result of a homeschooling life with your children. They love you. They want to be with you and you with them. Love winds its way around your home and wraps you and your children and husband in a gentle life that carries you until such time as your kids venture out on their own.
Homeschooling ends more with a long celebration together than with a bang or a whimper. I worried about how the journey might end for years. And then I realized that we really have no control over how the path will turn out. All we can do is recognize that we are not in control and let love guide us.
If you are just beginning your homeschooling journey or are far from the end, just stay in the moment with your family. Before you know it you will be at the end, and at the same time you will be at the beginning of a new time that is sweeter than you can imagine.
Regardless, it is all part of the journey we all take as parents and the most precious is that me plus you has made a we that is bigger than just you and your husband. You made a loving family!
And family is what it is all about right now.
