Jane Yolen – Where She Fits In History
Jane Yolen was born in 1939 in New York City. It was the year that Germany invaded Poland and began the aggression that would come to be known as World War II. It was a year of great movies. John Wayne starred in Stagecoach, a popular Western movie. Gone With The Wind opened in Atlanta, Georgia. The Wizard of Oz was released on the silver screen, and television began broadcasting across the U.S.
Jane Yolen has a book and activity for every day of the year for your child.
My children grew up reading Jane Yolen’s books. In fact my son loved the Dinosaurs Can`t Get To Sleep so much that he carried his dinosaur doll with him everywhere. It was the one object he grabbed up at age 2 when he decided that it was time to go home from our business trip to Colorado and took off out of our hotel room with a Bye-bye, going home, dinosaur in hand. We caught up with him in the parking lot before he could reach the main highway. If you have gone on long roadtrips with small kids, you probably know exactly this situation, but the point is that the one object most important to my boy was his Jane Yolen dinosaur.
