ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND HER TIMES
Jean Craighead George was born in 1919 in Washington, D.C. to a family of naturalists. Her early years looked just like a scene from the pages of Charlotte Mason’s description of education. George thrived outside.
She graduated from college in the 1940’s with degrees in English and Science and went on to write many, many books for children focused on outdoor adventures.
THESE STORIES ARE FANTASTIC!
My daughter absolutely loved My Side of The Mountain when she was young. She read it over and over and would sit out in the yard for hours pretending she was on her own mountain.
Jean Craighead George will take your child to a place where they can control their world. They can take the reigns and direct their future. And they can do it on a mountain in their own imagination.
― Jean Craighead George, My Side of the Mountain
“Be you writer or reader, it is very pleasant to run away in a book.”

I need to look her up. I have heard of some of her books but have not read any of them. We are going to the library this afternoon so I will be looking.
Love, love, love My Side of the Mountain!!!!
Also, her picture book Look to the North: A Wolf Pup Diary is one we read over & over.
I have read some of her books and never realized they are by the same author. Thanks for the insight!
My Side of the Mountain was a favourite of mine when I was young as well.
I have heard of My Side of The Mountain but never read it, I am going to have to add it to my books to read list 🙂
