We were headed into a rut lately and so I was truly thankful to be able to review the fantastic 24 pack of Magic Stix Washable Markers from The Pencil Grip, Inc.
Will It Enhance Your Homeschool?
Quality Markers That Won’t Dry Out
These markers really won’t dry out, even if you leave the cap off for seven days. I gave up keeping track after 12 days and since I have many different pictures of all the spring crafts you can create with these pens, I left the pictures of pens not drying out for you to find in the review of some great crew friends.
24 Brilliant Color Choices
This set of Magic Stix Washable Markers includes 24 fabulous colors, including some that my kids always wish for like bright pink and gold and silver.
Great For All Ages
Since these markers are non-toxic and washable, they are great for little ones, but the quality is high enough that teens enjoy them as well.
What Can You Do With This Marker Set?
My son and I came up with a number of different crafts you can make using these markers and some items you probably have around your house right now. Since it is almost spring, we decided to showcase some seasonal crafts.
First – A St. Patrick’s Day Vase
This one is easy. Just look around the house for an old vase. If you are like me, you have a bunch of odd-ball vases in cabinets. If you don’t you can even use a canning jar. We found an old bulb-forcing vase that is really past it’s best used by date. But a little bit of decoration breathes new life into these old vases!
Then give your child the vase and the markers and have them go to town decorating and drawing on the vase. Our example has a St. Patrick’s Day theme, but only because that is my wedding anniversary and we needed to start decorating!
Second – Decorated Easter Eggs Without The Mess!
Have you ever decorated Easter eggs with your kids? Then you are guaranteed to have stained tablecloths and shirts and kids hands with the dye. But you can use the Magic Stix Washable Markers to decorate eggs this year, and avoid the messy dye! And, look at how well the markers color a brown egg! Plus, since the markers are non-toxic, you have a wonderful way for kids to make detailed designs on their Easter eggs this year.
Third – Easter Candles
So the other thing we have a lot of around the house, besides cats, is half-burned candles. Once a candle gets burned down enough, it is no longer very pretty. But all you need to do is gather up all your half-burned candles and give them to your kids along with the Magic Stix Washable Markers, and let them color and decorate away! The end result is a much prettier candle that has that personal touch!
Fourth – A Spring Science Activity
Finally, you know those glass gems that kids love to buy at the craft store and then they sit around the house and no one knows what to do with them. Are you with me on this one? Well, here is a way to use them with your kids and teach them about reflections at the same time.
What you do is have your kids decorate a few of the diamond shapes on the glass gem (left side of the picture below). Then carefully turn the gem around so you look at it through the flat side (pointy side down). Wow! The half that was not colored with the markers is magically colored now! How does that work?!
Well, if you really want to know why the colors are reflected, it is all because the refractive index of the glass is greater than the refractive index of the air and so part of the pink, yellow, green, and blue light passes through the gem, but a good portion is bent back up and out the front flat face and into your eye. So it appears to you that the whole gem is colored, but in truth it is just physics. Pretty neat, huh?!
How We Liked It & How We Used It
My son really enjoyed using the Magic Stix Washable Markers to decorate our dining room window with this picture of a cross on a hill – perfect for Easter!
