ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND HIS TIMES
Howard Pyle was born in Wilmington, Delaware in 1853. To me this was so surprising as his stories seem to be so very much older than the U.S. Civil War. But there you are.
We homeschool in a classical style, so many of Howard Pyle’s books were on my children’s reading list growing up. The surprising part I found was that he was both a prolific author and illustrator.
These stories are well worth your time to read with your children to help expand their vocabulary and teach them about story crafting.
