Knee Deep in Paradise at the Top of the Mountain

Knee deep in paradise at the top of the mountainToday was one of those days. Filled with its share of problems and broken things. But I refused to give in.

I am certain you have had days like this. I bet you even have days like that every week!

The world was after me but I was having none of it. So I climbed a mountain and found myself knee deep in paradise.

Ever want to put the world away? There are ways I really want to find that paradise. But then the world creeps in and threatens to drag me away.

Have you ever felt that way? The cheerleader inside you says, “Don’t give in! You can make this a great day! All those things going wrong aren’t really important.

But what is important, really? Can you guess?

Just get up from your computer and tablet. Right now.

Walk around your house. Open every door and cupboard. I know you can find it.

Have you guessed?

If you find a child anywhere in your home, assuming it is one of yours, you just found that most important thing.

And so this evening, in the freezing rain with 30 Mph winds whipping about us, my son and I climbed a mountain. Yes it was hard and wet and muddy. And bone-chillingly cold. But in those hours, I found paradise.

So the next time you are pulled down by all that is wrong, you can find your own kind of paradise by just spending some time to be present with your children. Just take some time to do something, anything, that makes them happy. And you will discover joy and peace and contentment.

And the day’s troubles won’t matter anymore at all.

And in the meantime, a great song certainly cannot hurt!
