ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND HIS TIMES
Philip Kerr was born in 1956 in Scotland. He went to university and earned a master’s degree in law and philosophy, went on to work as a copywriter, and eventually began his life as an author. Well known for his Bernie Gunther stories for adults, he has published a few books for children as well that are well worth sharing with your children.
MY CHILDREN LIVED IN THE WORLD OF THE CHILDREN OF THE LAMP FOR YEARS
It was one of my children who found these books on the shelves of our local library. They both began devouring the first novel. As they read, they shared tidbits between them from the story and as time went on, they drew the world of the Children of the Lamp into their own imagination. After reading them myself, I strongly recommend this series as a read-aloud option as well.
These are the adventures of brother-sister twins who come of age only to discover that their whole family is part of the Djinn people who live amongst everyday people in today’s modern world. But underneath the everyday stories, an amazing world of magic hides beneath and the twins must lead fight to end all fights against evil. Full of twists and turns, this adventure series is an amazing read for middle grade children, and their parents.
