Poetry Analysis Sheets to Download & Thoughts on Summer Planning

DoodleMoms Poetry Analysis WorksheetsMy kids have always fit best into a mash-up of curricula for any given subject. That is why they now work using books written by original authors, now that the kids are older. But when they were little, nothing seemed to work for very long. I would get a new curriculum and it was all light and glory for a couple of months. Then the kids would wake up one morning and, boom! Either the curriculum was now wholly inappropriate to the learning style of my newly-morphed child, or overnight the teaching fairy hit her with a magic wand and she now understood the entire curriculum completely and was bored. So I had to adapt to the curriculum mash-up, which meant that I taught a lot of subjects with only a pile of different teacher’s guides and homemade worksheets.

What I am giving away today is one of those worksheets. This 4-page PDF set is for poetry analysis. We used these sheets for several years, just applying them at different levels of complexity as my kids aged. The last page is a ‘write your own poetry’ page and that we used to rewrite poems with synonyms, in different tenses, with different characters, and in different schemes – and more – all based on a framework used pretty evenly across classical education curricula. But I think the pack of worksheets are general enough you can apply them to any poetry curriculum.

I hope that your summer planning for the next school year goes well! (It really is my favorite time of year as I can look over all that my kids learned and map out a path for next year) We really do have the most fulfilling job there is, don’t we?!
