Purple Cupcakes Saved The Week {Our Weekly WrapUp}

Purple Cupcakes Saved The Week

Purple Cupcakes Saved The WeekWow this has been a week. Actually a week or three. But we are getting back to a new normal now and the blog will get back to its bustling self next week.

I had a mentor in college who ended up being my major professor for grad school who shared a piece of wisdom that has served me so well every time I hit troubles:

“The only thing that sets people apart is their persistence. You don’t have to be smart or lucky, you just have to be persistent.”

Persistence is not a happy activity. It is uncomfortable. You just want to give up. It would be so much easier to give up. But then you look into your child’s eyes and realize that you can’t. You have no choice. You have to rise above that flood. There is no other way. And so you persist. Put your head down, don’t listen to those false voices telling you to give up, and keep at it.

Persistence pays off in the end. I know from past experience. But right now I am still in the middle of persisting. My head is down, I cleared the decks and hoisted the sails. The ship is battle-ready and we are headed for stormy water. But I know persistence will see us through and in the end we will win.

How does this relate to purple cupcakes? This was one of those days that we needed to have something fun happen. Something happy. And a little packet of purple cupcake mix in the back of my cupboard was just the ticket. Sometimes you need to push beyond what you think you can. Sometimes you need to pretend to be happy to get there.

And sometimes, with your kids in tow, purple cupcakes are just the ticket!

I have some wonderful co-hosts and we blog through the alphabet together each Thursday. Come join us! – Thank you to everyone who is commenting and joining me as we talk about homeschooling life! I really enjoy the conversation and fellowship.

Books I Am Reading These Days

I read for fun, but also to try to keep up with what my kids are learning. This last part feels like a race I can never win sometimes, but I suppose trying is what being a homeschool mom is mostly all about.

  • Lynn Austin’s God & Kings Series – This is a fantastic read!
  • Jane Yolen’s The Emerald Circus – If you loved her children’s books, you will really like these short stories for adults!
  • Mary Hood’s The Joyful Homeschooler – I did not realize how much I have in common with Mary until I cracked open this wonderful book
  • Sheldon Margulies’ Learning Law
  • R. McNeill Alexander’s Exploring Biomechanics – I met McNeill Alexander a long time ago. He was the Dave Stotts of the Biomechanics world!
